The inspiration for this track came from my experiences of insomnia, I love to use field recordings in my work and I’d spent some evenings recording sounds from the night.. I always find the moment your head hits the pillow is a moment when you become very aware of your body and I’ve tried to capture this moment in the track, it opens with the sound of my wife’s heartbeat recorded as she was sleeping. As you’ll hear this song isn’t a lullaby, it descends into chaos with subby beats and synth lines evoking a sense of being wide awake when you should be asleep -
whether fighting sleep because you’d rather be out dancing, or searching for sleep as your mind races.

For the video we took nearly 5000 photographs, which when put together as an animation create a jagged series of movements, mimicking restlessness. It’s a playful take on all of the things I’ve tried to help me find sleep - from playing the saxophone in the middle of the night or untangling my thoughts (and cables) to flipping the pillow over and over.
